The future shape of Australia's fertiliser industry will be decided at a 22 October 2002 meeting in Brisbane. It is there that shareholders of Brisbane-based chemical and fertiliser giant Incitec will vote on a proposal to merge its fertiliser business with Melbourne-based Pivot. The merger, if approved, would create a giant with more than 800 staff, annual turnover of more than $A1bn per year and annual sales of more than three million tonnes. Incitec, which is 70 per cent owned by Orica and 22 per cent owned by Futuris, has asked its shareholders to approve the merger.
