Assirt has compiled a report on the current state of the Australian hedge fund industry. The report was commissioned by the Alternative Investment Management Association. The report states that the Australian hedge fund industry is currently worth around $A5.4 billion, with $A3.47 billion being in fund-of-hedge fund assets. Assirt also noted that 14 fund-of-hedge fund managers were launched between 1999 and 2001. Assirt stated that retail investors should no longer look upon hedge funds as being a separate asset class.
