The US Federal Trade Commission has granted permission for Nestle to acquire Chef America. The $A4.7 billion company is the fifth largest frozen food producer in the US. Famous for its "Hot Pockets" and "Croissant Pockets" brands, the acquisition will complement Nestle's existing Stouffer's and Lean Cuisine businesses. Still in the United States, Dutch food retailer Ahold is set to acquire Lady Baltimore foods. The food service distribution business is based in Kansas City and distributes over 14,000 food items to institutional customers.
