Singapore Telecommunications has called for flexibility in launching a third-generation (3G) mobile telephone network. Singapore's three mobile telephone companies are required to roll out the network for high-speed services by the end of 2004. SingTel Mobile's chief executive, Lucas Chow, said there is no advantage in launching a nationwide 3G network on an arbitrary date. It is more important that customers be able to reap the benefits promised by a broadband, high-speed wireless network.
