Secure short message service (SMS) gateways are possible, thanks to RSA Security. Using RSA's area of expertise, token-based secure systems, its system delivers one-time access codes for mobile telephone based e-commerce, using existing telephones and pagers. The market has potential: a March 2002 study shows that of the 12.3 million mobile telephone subscribers in Australia, 72 use SMS. The system eliminates the need for passwords. Interest is expected from financial services organisations.
