Australian milk prices have increased, with National Foods raising its wholesale price by $A0.05 a litre. National Foods spokesman, Ian Greenshields, said increased production and packaging costs necessitated the price rise. Greenshields noted that substantial increases in insurance costs have been recorded. The wholesale price increase will not affect the contracts of the company's Tasmanian suppliers, Greenshields said. National Foods is Australia's largest listed dairy company, and distributes brands such as Pura Milk, Big M, Farmers Union and Yoplait.
