The ANZ Bank announced on 1 November 2002 that it will raise credit card fees. It has increased the annual charge by 48 per cent and doubled the rewards program fee on two of its cards. Customers with Qantas ANZ Visa cards will pay a $A26 annual fee, up from $A19. The rewards program charge will double to $A22 from 12 December. Telstra Visa card holders will also be hit. ANZ has stated that the rising cost of providing reward programs is the reason for the rise. It denies that the changes are linked to the Reserve Bank of Australia's reforms to the credit card system.
