Australasian Business Intelligence, November, 2002

Oil refinery equipment is being shipped from the US to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (PNG). The 1,000 tonnes of equipment should reach PNG by December 2002. The $US200m project, with strong US Government backing, should see oil exploration company InterOil producing oil by the end of 2003. Built on Port Moresby harbour, the plant is expected to produce 32,500 barrels of crude oil a day. The production should meet PNG's domestic needs, as well as 35 for export to the Pacific region. InterOil, listed in Australia and PNG, is the second largest oil and gas explorer in the world.
