An independent media buying agency in Australia has cut costs for clients dramatically. In late 2002, figures show that Ikon Communications has saved the Commonwealth Bank between 3 and 10 on media costs for the last three years. Gary Hardwick, of Ikon, noted that the company has consistently matched or beaten all known benchmarks for costs. Ikon did not negotiate over television rates in 2001 and did not do so in 2002. In the latter year, Ikon purchased free-to-air television time on the short-term market. Paul Leeds, of Equmedia and StarCom Australia, agreed that "2002 had been a buyer's market" for media buying.
