Most e-mails spam by 2006: expert.

Australasian Business Intelligence, December, 2002

According to the president of the US Internet Industry Association, Dave McClure, unwanted e-mails are a growing problem. Addressing a conference in Canberra on 3 December 2002, McClure said by 2006, 70 per cent of all e- mails will be "spam" unless action is taken. Under US law companies have a right to communicate with, and market to, customers. However, legitimate businesses are suffering from the actions of fraudulent operators and are supporting controls, he said. Those controls may include site deregistration, fines, and jail terms. McClure said e- commerce in the US grew at 38 per cent in the September quarter of 2002.
