Australasian Business Intelligence, December, 2002

Shares in Australia's ANZ Banking Group were sold down on 13 December 2002. This followed a warning to shareholders by chairman, Charles Goode, that it would be hard to meet its 2003 profit targets. The mood was quite different at St George Bank's AGM, where the CEO, Gail Kelly, said the bank is confident it that will achieve double-digit earnings growth over the next three year. ANZ's shares hit an intraday low of $A17, recovering slightly to finish $A0.45 down for the day at $A17.20. St George shares fell by $A0.01 to end at $A17.82 in a generally lower market.
