Australia will be required to comply with standards set by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). Many of the proposed standards are still under discussion, with both US and European accounting boards calling for changes. The US Financial Accounting Standards Board appears particularly unwilling to accept all of the IASB's standards without a degree of change. Angus Thomson, of the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB), says only around a third of Australia's current standards will not require much change to comply with the new standards. Bruce Porter, of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, believes the new standards will impact most on the mining and retail sectors.
