Australia's ANZ Banking Group will examine its IT systems closely after a severe software failure. The bank's CEO, John McFarlane, is expected to focus his attention on the problem. An error-ridden software upgrade saw many financial transactions misdirected, and delays in fund transfers introduced. ANZ's IT department is the responsibility of David Boyles, whose operational portfolio was expanded in April 2002 to include operations and shared services as well as technology. According to an ANZ spokesman, the upgrade had included too many components, many of which were difficult to test beforehand.
