News gets tough over Italian TV.

Australasian Business Intelligence, December, 2002

Rupert Murdoch may be trying to secure a better deal from beleaguered Vivendi to take its Telepiu pay-TV business. Murdoch-controlled News Corporation has told the Australian Stock Exchange that, despite a statement by Vivendi to the contrary, News Corporation has not yet finalised its purchase of Telepiu. Vivendi's co-chief operating officer, Eric Licoys, had announced on 25 September 2002 that the Australian-listed company had agreed to buy Telepiu for EUR1 billion ($A1.8bn), which is a third less than News Corporation's EUR1.5bn offer in June 2002.
