Phillips-Van Heusen stitches up Calvin Klein.

US apparel and footwear manufacturer Phillips-Van Heusen has agreed to pay $US550m for the privately owned Calvin Klein Incorporated. The deal is expected to provide the company with growth opportunities beyond those it could achieve as a private company. Designer Calvin Klein, who owns the business with Barry Schwartz, will remain with the company as a consultant. Klein and Schwartz will retain a 4.4 per cent stake in the company. Calvin Klein Incorporated generates more than $US3bn in annual retail sales.
