Interbrand has released its second annual list of Australia's most valuable brands. It concluded that Telstra's brand was by far the most valuable in 2002, assessing it as being worth $A9.7 billion. Telstra was also ranked number one in 2001. The Commonwealth Bank of Australia was again judged the second most valuable brand, with a value of $A3.7 billion, followed by Westpac, the National Australia Bank and the ANZ Bank. John Allert, the CEO of Interbrand, says that companies such as Telstra continue to invest in their brand, despite the current poor economic climate. He suggests that the financial markets do not yet appreciate the influence a strong brand can have in boosting a company's business.
