Many aggressive corporate CEOs do not survive in the long term because of a lack of care for their employees. Part of caring is listening. A former BHP Billiton CEO listed the two most important facets of leadership, in his opinion, as listening and sincere communication. Research conducted by the Hay Group management consultancy firm in association with the Harvard University and Dartmouth College, revealed the best leaders, among 48 executive teams studied, were those that did not "smother" their executives with their own "forcefulness of their personalities". A US study by Watson Wyatt among 7,500 workers revealed that highly committed employees produced a 112 per cent return whereas workers with a low commitment...
