Small property buyers a threat to banks.

Macquarie Bank has warned that Australian banks could be facing losses as the result of over-commitment in investment property lending. The research conducted by Macquarie indicates that Australia's major banks are particularly exposed, holding the risk for a large proportion of investor housing credit. Investor housing is estimated to now account for over 30 of the home loans written by Australia's major banks. However, the report by Macquarie does temper these warnings by saying that relative to the banks' other lines of business, possible losses on investment housing loans would be small.
