A new, fast-moving computer virus launched an attack on the 25-26 January 2003 weekend, Australian time. The virus, called SQL Slammer, caused widespread business disruption in the US, but there are no early reports of it damaging any systems in Australia. The Australian Computer Emergency Response Team issued an alert within minutes of detecting SQL on 25 January 2003. In the US, the Bank of America said many customers were unable to withdraw money from its 113,000 ATMs, while Continental Airlines said some regional flights were delayed by about an hour.
