A "worm" that slows networks may hit Australian businesses going active on 28 January 2003. The "SQL Slammer", unlike other computer viruses, does not destroy data, but it uses security holes in simple query language (SQL) servers to launch repeated requests, clogging up network traffic. Security services have warned the worm could have a serious effect, and may merely be a precursor of a more serious attack that could target critical information infrastructure.
