New Tel issued free phone accounts to its "helpers".

New Tel provided two free mobile telephone accounts to Dominec Martino, CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. Apparently one was for Martino and the other for his wife. Martino's secretary, Maureen Iley, was also included on a list of subscribers annotated "no collections accounts", which is reported to have included more than 100 names. Personnel from New Tel's sponsoring stockbroker, Findlay & Company, also appear on the list. It included New Tel chairman, Harry Sorensen, and former directors, Mark Hake and An Zhou.
