Case study: scam search.

The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) has commissioned research into Internet search algorithms. The commission is looking for new search techniques that could be used to identify breaches of the Corporations Act. A team of IT and linguistics experts from the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre of the University of Sydney and Macquarie University will be provided with more than $A1 million in funds to develop new search algorithms. Keith Inman, director of Electronic Enforcement at ASIC, said that typical search methods are notoriously ineffective and there is an urgent need for improvements.
