More marketing money revs up car wars.

Australian car makers are spending significant amounts of money on the marketing of new models in 2002-03. Toyota, Holden and Ford spent $A400 million on marketing in 2001-02, or 8 of their sales. Toyota and Holden are expecting increased sales figures in 2002-03, and they are spending more on marketing to achieve this. According to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, car sales in January 2003 totalled 61,170, up 4.5 on the same month in 2002. Holden held 20.1 of the market, Toyota 18.5 and Ford 12.7.
