Galaxy Satellite Broadcasting is the pay-TV division of Television Broadcasts, Hong Kong's leading free-to-air broadcaster. Following two years of negotiations, US satellite group Intelsat has bought 51 per cent of the pay-TV unit. The $US69.5 million transaction will boost Hong Kong's ailing media sector. Competition in the city's pay-TV sector has been weak and Galaxy holds one of the only three remaining licences. News Corporation and Hong Kong Network TV have both withdrawn from the market, which is dominated by i-Cable Communications.
