Triple bottom line reporting is playing a bigger part in the rating of companies in Australia and around the world. Sustainability is one of the indices now used by Dow Jones. Such reporting takes into account a company's responsibilities to its employees, the community and the environment. Anglo-Dutch oil company, Shell, and Australia's BHP Billiton have produced reports on their ethical and environmental performance after being widely criticised for their behaviour in third-world countries. Closer to home, Westpac responded to the backlash against bank closures with a social impact report. It is now ranked first in the financial sector of the Dow Jones global sustainability index.
