Shares in Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) reached a two-month high on 20 March 2003, following a 7.2 per cent rise. The $S0.65 increase followed OCBC's announcement on 19 March 2003 that it planned to issue a special $S0.495 ($US.028) share dividend. The special dividend is on top of the $S0.15-per-share final dividend declared by OCBC in February 2003. In announcing the special dividend, OCBC advised that shareholders could choose to receive preference shares as an alternative, with the preferred shares having a yield of between four and five per cent.
