The Star airlines alliance may buy up to 200 aircraft in the first-ever purchase by a group of airlines. Star members comprise Deutsche Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines Group, Air Canada and Scandinavian Airlines System. An Austrian Airlines spokesman has confirmed that talks are in progress with aircraft makers, Airbus, Boeing, Empresa Brasileira de Aeronautica and Bombardier. The airlines are likely to focus on smaller jets with a carrying capacity of up to 110 people. Star Alliance spokesman, Knut Lovstuhagen, says the bulk order is aimed at securing cost savings.
