Intel's Centrino campaign hits the wi-fi hotspot.

Australia's Wi-Fi wireless networking hotspots have been swept up in Intel's multimillion dollar Centrino campaign. The hotspots are opting to identify themselves with the Centrino red and blue signage, even though the new computer chip holds a minority share of the market. Intel says 100 locations in Sydney and Melbourne have signed on to the campaign. This contrasts with the efforts by the Wi-Fi Alliance, which is attempting to become an overall marketing body for the wireless networks. David Taylor, the chief operating officer of premier Australian Wi-Fi company Azure Wireless, points out that Intel provides a range of services for free, while the Wi-Fi Alliance charges a fee.
