AlintaGas, AMP set to buy local Aquila assets.

AMP Henderson Global Investors and AlintaGas are reportedly close to acquiring the Australian assets of US utility group, Aquila Incorporated. Shares in both AlintaGas and United Energy have been placed in a trading halt pending a 23 April 2003 announcement expected to detail particulars of the acquisition. Aquila holds a 34 per cent stake in United Energy and a 22.5 per cent stake in Multinet Gas, managed by United Energy. Aquila and United Energy also jointly own a 45 per cent stake in AlintaGas.
