The Australian Government is tackling the issue of corporate governance. It has given liquidators the right to reclaim "unreasonable payments" from executives of failed corporations, and the next step is CLERP 9, the next phase in its Corporate Law Economic Reform Program. This is mostly concerned with auditing, but it does touch on executive remuneration. Professor John Hewson, former Liberal Party of Australia leader and Dean of Macquarie University's Graduate School of Management, has established the Reputex Ratings System which will rate Australia's top 100 companies according to four criteria.
