Flight Centre card ban gains support.
Australasian Business Intelligence, April, 2003
Apr 29, 2003 (Traveltrade - ABIX via COMTEX)
Flight Centre is not allowing credit card payments for bookings with "struggling" airlines or operators. CEO Bob Sparks says if groups operating under bankruptcy provisions collapse, travel retailers risk being liable for credit card transactions. Sparks says banks and credit card groups need to reform their policies. Other Australian retailers, including Jetset Travelworld, have similar policies to Flight Centre. United Airlines, which is classed as "struggling" by the retailer, does not object to Flight Centre's stance. The policy is also supported by the Council of Australian Tour Operators.
