More surcharges take off.

The war in Iraq has forced several global carriers to add special war surcharges to airfreight. Australia's Qantas Airways has implemented a fuel surcharge of $A0.10 per kilogram and a $A5 security levy for freight under 167 kilograms or $A0.03 per kilogram for heavier shipments. Singapore International Airlines and Lufthansa Cargo have introduced similar charges, while China Airlines has been criticised for using the war to raise air cargo rates by 20 per cent for Europe-bound cargo. Meanwhile, many carriers have suspended flights to Kuwait due to the war in neighbouring Iraq.
