Austar positive for four quarters.

Australian regional pay-TV operator, Austar United Communications, reported its quarterly results on 7 May 2003. The company posted a net profit of $A16.9m for the three months to 31 March 2003. The result, however, was boosted by a $A24.5m abnormal gain from the sale of its stake in TelstraClear to Telstra. Before abnormal items, Austar posted a loss of $A7.6m, a turnaround from the $A44.6m loss incurred in the previous corresponding period. Austar's CEO, John Porter, noted that the company has recorded four consecutive quarters of positive underlying earnings. Pay-TV subscriber numbers during the latest quarter increased from 402,739 to 406,545.
