A restructure of information technology operations at Telstra may cut many jobs. Telstra intends to change the focus of the information technology arm and centralise control. The Australian company aims to cut costs by 50 per cent within three years. The information technology operation employs up to 2,400 staff. Three divisions are going to be restructured. Over 50 per cent of Telstra's IT services are outsourced, and these contracts are expected to be cut. The Community & Public Sector Union has requesting a hearing before the Australian Industrial Relations Commission to safeguard the interest of affected workers.
