Scientists hope to identify the most dangerous roads for wildlife on the central coast of New South Wales. According to WIRES, an animal rescue organisation, nine hundred animals die each day on roads in the area. Scientists at the University of New South Wales have devised a technology that utilises the Global Positioning System (GPS). A hand-held data logger is used to record information, and the exact position is recorded with the GPS. The survey will identify locations with high numbers of wildlife killed. Councils can then take action, such as erecting warning signs and reducing speed limits.
