Emerging-market debt develops returns.

Investors not prepared to take for the risks inherent in emerging markets would do well to investigate emerging-market government bond funds. These funds, such as the Pimco Emerging Markets Bond Fund, the Fidelity New Markets Income Fund, the Fidelity Advisor Emerging Markets Income Fund and the MFS Emerging Market Debt Fund, provide high returns with minimal fluctuations. Mohammed El-Erian, of Pacific Investment Management Company, says that returns over the past five years on emerging-market debt have been in the order of seven per cent, despite well-publicised crises in Russia and Argentina.
