Army upgrades Leopard tanks.
Australasian Business Intelligence, May, 2003
May 15, 2003 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX)
The Australian Army is changing the spots on its Leopard tanks by adding two new systems. The Australian Government will pay Swedish-based SAAB Training Systems for a system that will enable Leopard crews to train in precision gunnery. The system enables a kind of laser tag on a massive scale, with the tanks able to simulate firing at each other and keep score. The second upgrade stems from a $A4.9m contract with the Optronics division of ADI. It will supply night vision equipment for the German-built Leopards based on the GEN III image intensifiers from US-based company ITT NightVision.
