A new interline agreement between Virgin Blue and Regional Express (Rex) has been hailed as a "great milestone". The agreement comes into effect on 21 July 2003. Michael Jones, Rex CEO, said the agreement was the "first step" in developing co-operation between the two airlines. Following the deal, passengers can book flights on both airlines through the Rex call centre. The agreement would pave the way for Virgin to spread its wings to more regional centres in Australia. Qantas had earlier rejected a proposal from Rex for an interline deal.
