E-markets spook small suppliers.

Small suppliers are not being attracted to an electronic procurement project for four Australian Government departments. The departments are the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD), the CSIRO, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and the Special Broadcasting Service. The project is being facilitated by $A2.5m in funds from the Australian National Office of the Information Economy. The CSIRO project is behind schedule. Peter Outteridge of the CSIRO says the delay is due to the novelty of the area and reluctance by suppliers to sign on to the system. Roger Knowles of the AAD said suppliers were fearful of the new system. In contrast, the ABC has seen ready acceptance of the system.
