The Australian Government may be getting closer to having the Senate accept its superannuation reform. It is likely to hold further negotiations with the Australian Democrats party, which wants the latest benefits split two-thirds to low-income earners and one-third to others. The Government has offered a 60/40 split. Two measures are in focus - one measure giving low-income earners up to $A1,000 off co-contributions, and reducing the superannuation surcharge.
