Australasian Business Intelligence, June, 2003

Neuroscience and bioengineering scientists are devising "brain prostheses" and "neural interfaces". They are looking for cures for brain-related disorders such as epilepsy, as opposed to trying to create an artificial consciousness. Testing of an artificial hippocampus is starting at the University of Southern California. At Stanford University, researchers have developed four artificial synapses on a silicon chip. Infineon Technologies is trying to commercial its "Neuro-Chip", which records and processes electrical signals from the brain's neurons.
