Trade joins funding on diverse research.

The Australian Research Council (ARC) has funded 261 research projects for $A47.5 million in research grants. The University of Melbourne gained 29 grants worth $A6.2 million. Wollongong and Monash universities gained funding for 18 projects each. Southern Queensland, James Cook and Ballarat universities gained one grant each. In total, 33 universities were awarded grants. The ARC received 1178 applications with a 45 per cent success rate in this round, compared with 910 applications and a 50.8 per cent success rate in 2002. In October 2002 the ARC funded 325 projects with $A58 million.
