Three-year inquiry into identity fraud.
Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2003
Jul 09, 2003 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX)
Australian university researchers will undertake a long-term study on identity fraud. The national study will take three years, and involves Monash University, the University of New South Wales, the University of South Australia and the Australian Transaction Reports & Analysis Centre (Austrac). The economic cost of identify fraud is estimated to be potentially $A4bn per annum, but the nature of the crime means that it may go undetected for years. The goals of the study include determining ways to counter identity fraud and identity theft, and the use of technology such as the Internet in facilitating such crimes.
