Some retail marketers in Australia are not keeping abreast of new ideas. This is the view of Krishnan Menon, an executive vice-president with the Carlson Marketing Group. In 2003, he noted that relationship marketing and loyalty programs are "crucial" to the success of retail marketing. He said that it is useless for retailers to build huge databases if they have not worked to give customers a high-quality retail experience. Menon believes that retailers have to work on producing this experience. He also believes that innovative loyalty programs must be developed. Menon noted that new technology will be incorporated into the retail experience in coming years and the US is at the cutting edge.
