Martin Cooper has won an award for young winemakers. Cooper, a cousin of Max Cooper, the head of Coopers Brewery, won the Qantas Medal for promising young winemakers. As a winemaker, says Cooper, you should do very little in a great vintage, because the elements are there for you. The skill, he says, is in a bad vintage, when you have to really work hard and manipulate the fruit. Cooper, 29, attended the University of Adelaide and met a senior McWilliams executive, Brian McWilliams in a pub. He is now the group senior winemaker for McWilliams Wines.
