The Australian and New Zealand arm of global recruitment web site, Monster Worldwide, is to be shut down. On 29 July 2003, it was reported that Monster will close down its Australasian operations on 1 August following a falling out with its alliance partners, Publishing & Broadcasting Limited (PBL) and Microsoft. As a result of the closure, at least 40 staff will be retrenched. While neither PBL or Monster would comment on the matter, Monster Asia Pacific's president, Craig Kennedy, has previously said that the joint venture could not continue in its present form.
