Illegal copiers feel publishers' wrath.
Australasian Business Intelligence, July, 2003

The Australian Publishers Association has taken action against a stationery business near Griffith University in Brisbane. It is alleged that Sunnybank Stationery has sold university textbook photocopies at up to one-third of the retail price. Sunnybank will appear before the Federal Court on 11 August 2003. Breaches of the Copyright Act can lead to a fine of $A70,000 or imprisonment for up to five years. McGraw-Hill's Yasminka Nemet believes that the illegal practice is more widespread than the bookselling and publishing industry had initially suspected. The association's CEO Susan Bridge said private detectives have been employed in an attempt to catch offenders.
