Shamrock reduces Ansell stake, sparks share rally.

Shamrock Holdings has reduced its stake in the Australian gloves and condom manufacturer, Ansell. The US investment group sold 5.5 million shares, or around three per cent of Ansell, on 22 August 2003, leaving it with a 10 stake in the group, or around 18 million shares. A similar-sized stake in Ansell is held by three other shareholders, US group Harris Associates, and Australian investment groups, Maple-Brown Abbott and Perpetual. The market responded positively to the action in Ansell shares on 22 August, pushing the company's stock to a six-month high of $A6.90.
