Tasman Express: AFTA calls in lawyers.

Air New Zealand has launched reduced fares for customers booking via the Internet. The airline is hoping that one-third of its Tasman Express business would come from online bookings. However, the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has sought legal advice due to concerns over the carrier's approach. The CEO of AFTA, Mike Hatton, says Air New Zealand would be paying base commissions through travel chains. This may be a violation of the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Passenger Agency Conference agreement. Travel chains are also not happy with the switch in the airline's strategy.
