Warning shot to all file-sharers.

Australasian Business Intelligence, August, 2003

The Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) has sent messages to some Internet users warning that they may be breaching copyright. The users who were targeted are those who have made music stored on their hard disks available for download by others. The CEO of ARIA, Stephen Peach, says the e-mail campaign is directed at increasing awareness. Another reason for the campaign is that it may increase the legal culpability of people offering files for download. The CEO of the Internet Industry Association, Peter Coroneos, said work is continuing on a code of conduct for ISPs regarding music piracy, with the hope that the matter can be resolved outside of the courts.
